"First trip around the sun with Salt Strong!!!"

"How do you feel about the person that taught you how to fish?

For many, it's a father, Grandfather, or other family member, but for me it was Salt Strong....all of it. The community, coaches, education, tackle and app so now you can understand why I'm a Lifer so quickly. When I joined, I upgraded my sub 3 times in the first month devouring all of the courses with no "ragrets". The Mini and Mastery courses had and have such a big impact on shortening the learning curve.

First, this community answered every newbie question I could ask or overthink "what color", lol. Mario Relvini,  Rob S, John Page, George Layton and so many others have taken the time to help educate, encourage and in Rob's case....mess with me and I'm eternally grateful.

I know if I have a question or struggling on the water, this community will not only have suggestions, but I can always count on positive reinforcement here. I have no other social media because of the negativity I see elsewhere.

COACHES!!! I have a music degree and took lessons from age 6 to 24 and through that, it's learn the concept, practice the concept, perform, evaluate, and repeat. I'm trying to "bring the cage to the field" and these coaches have truly helped me. Scott Ray was a friend and mentor even before he was a coach. He has endless fishing knowledge and such a natural coach. Fishing with him is difficult because we never shut up and lose focus, lol, but I'll never forget my trip to TX and his to FL this year. Pat Ogletree has such a great demeanor and sense of humor and has introduced me to some of my favorite tactics like my topwater obsession, but I think his best tip to me was telling me to use the HH 4/0 hook on the Mulligan because I posted that my landing ratio wasn't as good as I wanted.

Never looked back.

Like Scott, I used to talk to Matt Robinson a lot before he was on Staff and I followed his fishing reports. We have had the chance to talk a lot more at meetings and have fished together. Such a great talent on the water and just a good dude. Tony Acevedo "he only catches monsters" offers such great local intel that with him and Pat we are very blessed in this area. Finally, Luke Simonds managing the team but also taking time to always answer my rod/reel pairing ideas and other tackle questions. Now if I could only get access to his catch log. lol

Lastly, the Space Coast Chapter!!!! I always say it, Dell Murray is the reason I've gone to every meeting since my first. He and others shared the "reel" secrets and now that I have some of my own, I'm sure to help pay it forward. Joining the leadership team and working side-by-side to plan our activities are never without a laugh.

First Year....
• Became completely addicted to fishing, lol
• Fished approx. 235 days and made 215 posts
• Converted from live to artificial
•  First Snook to 36" PB on Father's Day!
• First over slot Redfish to 34" PB (Foreseen by George Layton)
• First over slot Trout to 27" PB
• First Slam to 77" Slam on 7/29. Didn't know what a slam was before joining.
• First Flounder, Cobia, Shark, Tarpon, Black Drum, Pompano etc.
• Mastered 4 knots I need (FG, Trilene, NS Loop, and blood) and many others.
• Started jetty and offshore fishing catching first ARS, Mango, Lane, Vermillion, Trigger, Grouper(s), Tile(s), Smacks, Cudas, and was sharked with a 2/0 hook and landed the Taxman
• Put about 15 or so friends on PB's or firsts. (See Scott Ray's Snook)
• Learned how to fillet fish out of necessity, lol
